#Giving Tuesday – Empowering Epilepsy

Giving Tuesday is a new day of global outreach dedicated to giving back. After celebrating Thanksgiving with your friends and family, shopping on Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday,  Giving Tuesday focuses on how you can help others! By simply volunteering or donating, you can help empower the lives of people in your community.

Empowering Epilepsy is joining in the Giving Tuesday movement, and there are many ways you can help.

1. Donate to help fund Empowering Epilepsy’s programs and services.

Empowering Epilepsy is a non profit 501(c)3 public charity organization. Your donation is tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

2. Share Empowering Epilepsy’s Facebook page, website and events with friends and family to help spread the word about Empowering Epilepsy. More than 65,000 people in Northeast Ohio live with epilepsy. Adding all of the family members and friends of those living with epilepsy that are essential in helping them live well equates to more than 300,000 people are affected by epilepsy in the Northeast Ohio area.

3. Volunteer with Empowering Epilepsy. Check out the attached PDF that illustrates how you can help us empower the lives of people with epilepsy in Northeastern Ohio. We would love any time or resources that you can provide.

When it comes to helping people with epilepsy, you may not understand the magnitude of your donation of time, money or resources. People with epilepsy basically struggle with this chronic disease alone because there are many “feelings” that are part of epilepsy that others cannot see or understand.  We want to find solutions to curing epilepsy, but resources are limited and research is not very prevalent in the epilepsy community. The “discoveries” researchers have been making are already well known to people with epilepsy. Not many advances in epilepsy have been made to lessen seizures minus new medications that often come with a plethora of side effects.

What we are looking for is a cure – a way to stop seizures for everyone. Medications or surgery works for some people, but does not stop seizures for a majority of those afflicted with epilepsy. The seizures still remain and life limitations are unavoidable. Also, more people die from epilepsy than breast cancer.

That is where Empowering Epilepsy steps in. Our goal is to find ways to help people with epilepsy and their families live well with epilepsy. We provide support groups with Empowering Epilepsy Restorative Yoga that allows people to meet others who understand epilepsy, provide realistic and active strategies to help lessen seizures, and find ways to alleviate the life limitations caused directly by epilepsy and seizures. We provide positive events to bring people with epilepsy together, help them realize they are not alone, and lessen the negative stigma connected to epilepsy and seizures.
